Tea is a beverage enjoyed worldwide. The Japanese have the preparation and consumption of tea down to a work of art. One part of this artwork is a Kyusu teapot. This is a Japanese ceramic tea pot that has a unique handle extending from one side. As opposed to the traditional curved handle atop or on the side of most other teapots. This teapot was designed to brew green tea, exclusively.

Usually for the individual

More often than not, the Kyusu teapot is found in a smaller size. This little teapot is perfect for times when you want to sit back and have a cup of tea by yourself or with a good friend or loved one. Larger Kyusu teapots can be found if you look for them. These larger Kyusu teapots are perfect for groups of 12 or so. Small or large the Kyusu teapot is the perfect addition for our collection if you are a teapot connoisseur. Even if you are just starting your collection you will want to have one of these.

Green tea's best friend

Kyusu is Japanese for "teapot". This teapot is made from clay or ceramics. The Kyusu teapot was designed specifically to brew green tea because metal and green tea brewing do not mix well. Green tea tends to draw out the metallic flavor from the pot it is brewed in. An alternative had to be designed to avoid this event. The Japanese developed the Kyusu teapot because they drink a lot of green tea. Although, many of the customs in Japan have Chinese origins, the Japanese drink green tea more so than the Chinese who are more prone to drink black tea.

Six Old Kilns

Tokoname, Japan is known as one of the "Six Old Kilns of Japan". This does not mean that it is one big kiln. It has gained this designation because the city is one of the major centers of stoneware production in Japan. This area is situated in the Aichi prefecture, which is in near the center of the main island of Honshu. Anyone who has visited Japan knows that the air is permeated by the rich culture and traditions of their lifestyle. This aspect transitions into the fine detailing and composition of Kyusu teapots. Craftsmanship like this does not happen overnight. The centuries of workmanship has been obviously passed down from one generation to the next. Giving the Six Old Kilns the respect and admiration they deserve for their devotion to producing fine merchandise.

A unique design

Easy to hold and pour from with a simple twist of the wrist you can pour a cup or cups of delicious tea. Their lightweight construction makes them easy to handle, even when full. The fact that it does not have a lot of added weight due to its construction makes this a great gift for elderly people who may have a problem lifting a heavier or more utilitarian teapot. The Kyusu teapot is a hand-made product.

Washing has never been so easy
The Kyusu teapot does not stop at having a unique design for making it a very special teapot to have, indeed. It does not have to be "washed". There is no need to fill the sink with soap and water with this teapot. A clean sponge and warm water is all you need to clean the Kyusu teapot. Once you are done washing out all the green tea you had in it, (you can make black or red tea in it, as well.) Simply place your Kyusu teapot in the drain rack or on a dry towel and leave it.

A Kyusu teapot is a great gift idea. Be careful when shopping for and buying a Kyusu teapot. You may find yourself inadvertently addicted to the collecting of these uniquely hand-crafted ceramic pieces. You can buy a Kyusu teapot individually or you can purchase a full set, along with special cups to drink your green tea from. Look online for the best deals, but if you are in a hurry your local mall will more that likely have a specialty store that carries one or two Kyusu teapots as part of their regular inventory.
